Permit types explained: guest passes

Last updated: November 4, 2026

Guest passes authorize vehicles a resident is hosting for a limited time.

Not sure this is the right permit type? See Permit types explained: which one should I use?

How it works

Guest passes cover any visitors, such as friends and family. Each pass is tied to one vehicle (plate, year, make, and model) and one resident host. Passes are time-limited. Your community's Guest Parking configuration sets how long a pass lasts and how many a resident can have at once.

Who can use it

  • Residents create passes for their own guests.

  • Property managers create passes on a resident's behalf and can override guest limits when your policy allows.

Where to find it

  • Residents: log in at app.parkingpass.com and click Register Guest / Rental, or go to Guest / Rental Vehicles.

  • Property managers: create the pass from the resident's account.

Common questions

Do rideshare and delivery drivers need a pass?

Usually not. Short rideshare and delivery stops are typically below the time limit where a guest pass is needed. If they cause recurring issues, raise it in your patrol partner review or your parking policy.

A family member is staying for a month. What do I use?

A guest pass for the length of the stay. If guest stays regularly run longer than your allowed pass length, that's a policy conversation, not an exception.

Who should create a pass for a one-time contractor, plumber, or real estate agent?

Whichever resident or staff member is responsible for them. For a showing or an emergency repair, that's usually the office.

What about a moving truck for a new resident?

A guest pass from the resident is the simplest path.

Important notes

  • Every guest pass needs a resident host. If no specific resident owns the visit, ask who is hosting before you create the pass.

  • When in doubt, a guest pass is the safest default for short-term situations. It's time-bound, tied to a resident, and visible to patrol.

  • One-time visitors don't need a Do-Not-Tow entry. Anything for a single day or a single job should be a guest pass.
