How to set up patrol for a new community

Last updated: November 4, 2026

This is phase 2 of launching a new community. For all four phases, see the Property launch readiness checklist. Confirm who patrols your community and when, and protect the vehicles that shouldn't be ticketed or towed before patrol starts.

Set up patrol

  1. Confirm who patrols. If you work with a patrol partner, check that their details are correct in ParkingPass. If something's wrong, see Changing patrol vendors. If your own team patrols, confirm who's responsible and that they have the right role. See How user roles work.

  2. Confirm patrol hours. Patrol hours are agreed during onboarding. If you're unsure, check with ParkingPass Support.

  3. Set up your Do-Not-Tow list. Before patrol starts, add vehicles that shouldn't face enforcement, like employees, contractors (landscaping, maintenance, and similar), and other approved vehicles. See Managing the Do-Not-Tow (DNT) list.

  4. Place patrol holds for known events. If you have a move-in day, contractor work, or a gathering in your first week or two, place a patrol hold for that window. See Placing and managing patrol holds.

  5. Brief whoever patrols. Share your community's layout, hotspots, and any first-week patrol holds. Make sure they have an after-hours contact on your team.

Usage

When this phase is done, move on to How to onboard residents to a new community.

Set Do-Not-Tow dates carefully. ParkingPass doesn't warn you before an entry expires. For help choosing the right type, see Permit types explained: which one should I use?
